The agression and genocide implemented on the state of Bosnia & Herzegovina lasted from 6th April 1992 to 14th September 1995. The agression resulted in 200,000 people killed and 2 million more displaced. Recently the United States Congress unanimously approved Srebrenica Resolution (S. Res. 134 and H. Res. 199) on genocide, which states the following:
"the policies of aggression and ethnic cleansing as implemented by Serb forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995 meet the terms defining the crime of genocide"
Several members of the Council had a leading role in initiating the language and overall process for Srebrenica Resolution, which has led the Council members to identify the need for a full time presence in the Washington DC, through an NGO non profit organization, that will advocate the continuing support of the United States for full democratization and rebuilding of Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Bosniak American Advisory Council for Bosnia & Herzegovina was formed in January 2006, based in Washington DC, and it has 9 members of Board of Directors and 22 Board of Trustees members. It opened its office on September 5th 2006, which is managed by Program Director.
Currently there are over 300,000 Bosnian Americans living in the United States. The major population centers are St. Louis, Chicago, New York, and the states of Florida, Michigan, Arizona, and California. The population is mostly centered around major city centers, of which the St. Louis is the strongest center with over 70,000 Bosnian Americans.
The Council goal is to become a political and educational voice for the Bosnian Americans in assisting the Bosnian Americans in learning the cultural, economic, legal, political, and social systems of the United States. The mission is to help and assist United States foreign policy in Balkans so that Bosnia & Herzegovina and its people are never again the target of aggression and genocide.
